our
Karate dojo was
established May 1, 2005 in Walworth, WI. Our name, Kazoku Budokan, is
Japanese for Family Martial Arts Academy. This name was chosen because the
dojo founders believe in the qualities of traditional
martial arts, especially mutual respect and well being. Seven instructors
range in rank from 1st to 7th degree black belt with four to over forty
years of experience. Combined, we offer well over 100 years experience!
Currently
we are offering instruction
in traditional
Okinawan Goj u Shorei Ryu Karate-Do
and Taichi. Our classes involve light calisthenics, stretching and
drills designed to build speed of body and mind, reflexes, and technical
skills. Students will learn techniques, some of which are very
modern and many of which are hundreds if not thousands of years old.
Along with the physical aspects of martial arts we also teach history,
culture and tradition.
We
believe with continued practice, martial arts training will build a strong
healthy body, a sharp mind, confidence and strong moral character.
Martial arts are as much about life as they are about self defense.
For
centuries the traditions and techniques of the
martial arts have
been passed down from generation
to generation. Families or small villages
would establish a dojo, usually in the home of an elder. The only
requirement was a
willingness to learn. The dojo was maintained through community
spirit. We at the Kazoku Budokan also believe in this concept.
No one should be denied
the opportunity to participate in the martial arts because of lack of
funding. Therefore, we have established a rate of $50.00 per month
to cover the cost of rent and expenses. A family rate is also available.
We invite you to visit us any time you wish to drop in and watch or
participate in a class.
