NI-KYU   ( Brown Belt – 2nd Kyu )

 

General Requirements

Regular dojo attendance.

Member in good standing with the Kazoku Budokan.

Minimum of three months time in grade as San Kyu or instructors approval.

General Knowledge

1.    Japanese terminology for all techniques required for this and previous ranks.

2.    Ability to teach beginning level students basic skills.

General Terminology                       

Students should show increased proficiency and knowledge of terms learned at previous belt levels including names of various techniques.  Students should also be familiar with terms listed below:

 WAZA – Techniques

Students will demonstrate the following techniques, as well as those of   previous belt ranks.

Dachi-Waza: Stance Techniques

1.    Hour Glass Stance:                               Sanchin Dachi

2.    Same Plane Hour Glass Stance:         Naihanchi Dachi

Te-Waza: Hand Techniques

1       Double fist punch ( Seiken Zuki & inverted Seiken Tsuki):    Yama Tsuki

2       Two-fisted Punch ( horizontal ):                   Morote Seiken Tsuke

3       Extended Knuckles Punch:                          Hanuchi Ken Tsuki

Geri-Waza: Kicking Techniques

1        Spinning side kick:                                Ura Yoko Geri

2       Spinning back kick:                               Ura Ushiro Geri

3       Spinning hook kick:                              Ura Ushiro Mawashi Geri

4       Spinning Inside Crescent Kick: Ura Mikazuki Geri

Uke-Waza: Blocking Techniques

1       High Rising Elbow Block:           Jodan Age Empi Uke

2       Decending Elbow Block:            Gedan Barri Empi Uke

3       Midsection Elbow Block:            Chudan Empi Uke    

Nage Waza: Throwing Techniques

1.    Two Hand Reap:        Morote Gari

Ukemi Waza: Breaking Falling Techniques

Increased proficiency in previously learned techniques

Atemi Waza:  Vital Point Techniques

Understanding of "Atemi" and the correct methods of striking the below listed target area

          Kansetu Waza: Joint Locking Techniques

1.    Hand Armlock:           Ude Te Gatame

Osae / Shime Waza: Holding Techniques

1.    Sleeve Wheel Choke:         Sode Guruma Jime

2.    Thrust Choke:                     Tsukkomi Jime

Goshin Waza:  Self defense techniques

Students will demonstrate a defense for the following attacks:

1.     Yoko Shiho Gatame

2.    Kami Shiho Gatame

Ippon Kumite Waza: Single attack defense techniques

Students will demonstrate two (2) one-step defense for the below listed attacks:

1.      Front Kick

2.    Overhead Hammerfist Strike

3.    Reverse punch

4.    Side kick

Students will demonstrate twenty five (25) one-step defenses for the below listed attacks, including five  (5) with takedowns:

            Single right hand punch

            Single left hand punch

Kata: Formal Exercises

Naihanchi
Weapon Kata of Your Choice

Kumite: Free style sparring

Student should demonstrate high basic level sparring skills exercising control and timing.  Emphasis should be on a "give and take" approach between partners.
