General Requirements

Regular dojo attendance.

Member in good standing with the Kazoku Budokan.

Minimum of Six months time in grade as Ik Kyu or instructors approval.

General Knowledge

1       Japanese terminology for all techniques required for this and previous ranks.

2       Know history of Karate and Kempo JuJitsu

3       Know history of Goju Ryu

4       Know history of  Shorei Ryu

5       Ability to teach beginning and intermediate level students basic skills.

6       Write a 500 word essay on any subject related to martial arts.

7       Minimum 20 hours teaching lower rank classes.

General Terminology                       

Students should show increased proficiency and knowledge of terminology by using and teaching.

 WAZA – Techniques

Students will demonstrate the following techniques, as well as those of   previous belt ranks.

Dachi-Waza: Stance Techniques

Verbally explain the importance of Dachi Waza

Te-Waza: Hand Techniques

1       Consecutive Punching With Same Hand:  Dan Tsuki

2       Alternate Punching:                                        Ren Tsuki

3       Leading fist jab:                                               Kizami Tsuki

4       Eagle’s Beak  Strike( Finger Tip ):               Washi Te Uchi

5       Bear Hand Strike:                                            Kuma Te Uchi

6       Tiger’s Mouth:                                                  Ko Koo Uchi

7       Nipping Fingers:                                              Yubi Basami Uchi

Geri-Waza: Kicking Techniques

1.    Jumping Spinning Inside Crescent Kick:            Tobi Ura Uchi Mikazuki Geri

2.    Jumping Spinning Outside Crescent Kick:         Tobi Ura Soto Mikazuki Geri

3.    Jumping Spinning Side Thrust Kick:                             Tobi Ura Yoko Kekomi Geri

Goshin Waza:  Self defense techniques

          Defense for the following Knife Attacks

1.    Straight thrust

2.    Slash

2.    Overhead

3.    Upper cut

4.    Lapel Grab with knife at throat

5.    Knife at throat from rear

6.    Knife at back from rear

7.    Knife at stomach from front

Defense for the following hand gun attacks

1.    Gun at head from front

2.    Gun at midsection from front

3.    Gun at head from rear

4.      Gun at midsection back from rear

Ippon Kumite Waza: Single attack defense techniques

Students will demonstrate two (2) one-step defense for the below listed attacks:

1.                  Side Kick

2.                Overhead hammerfist strike

3.                Reverse punch

4.                Front kick

5.                High Kick

6.                Reverse kick

7.                Spinning backhand

8.                Spinning back kick

9.                Jumping overhead hammerfist strike

10.           Hay maker punch

Students will demonstrate thirty (30) one-step defenses for the below listed attacks, including ten (10) with takedowns:

            Single right hand punch

            Single left hand punch

Kata: Formal Exercises

                  Shi So Chin

                   PSanchin

                 Weapon of Choice

Kumite: Free style sparring

Student should demonstrate high level sparring skills exercising control and timing. Emphasis should be on a "give and take" approach between partners.
