The KNS The Kondo No Shokai webpage has changed, it can now be found at www.kondonoshokai.com There are many interesting articles in the archives that are full of information., so please go check it out. The New Kata are being well received by those who have learned them, which is good. But, just because they are not a part of the official curriculum that does not mean that there isn't good things to be learned from the pinan kata. If you know them there is plenty of ippon kumite that can be pulled from them, and pinan shodan can still continue to be a good base point for weapons kata. The Handbook has been updated to include the new kata, and has been checked to make sure the correct techniques are in there. Ik-kyu, Ni-kyu and San-Kyu still need some work, but that hopefully will be shortly fixed. The tentative date for the test for the high ranked adults is tentatively scheduled for Saturday the 28th. Even if you are not testing you should come and support your fellow karateka, if nothing else it should be a high energy event that will be fun to watch. |

New Kata So First of let me apologize for the lack of updates lately. I have excuses but that's all they are so there is no need to discuss them. The biggest news lately is that we have completely re-written the list of kata for all the belt ranks but orange.
And of course the black belt list has changed too, but that is a good start. Hopefully soon I will have enough time to update the handbook, as well as find a video version of most of these so you can get a look at them. Finally the kids class has been shortened to only 45 minutes. It still begins at 6:30 pm, but we are finding it difficult to maintain focus with the youngest of our karateka. The remaining 15 minutes will be an open session for the older kids so they have a chance to work on what they need or want to. I Hope everyone had a safe halloween, and is ready for the winter months, remember if the Walworth schools are closed. so is the dojo Tony |

If you haven't already, check out the facebook group that has been created, the link for it is on the links page. Thanks goes out to Lauren for taking care of that one. The Handbook for white through green belt has been updated, just in time for the test... Blue and Purple will be soon, brown and black will come eventually There are some more student submissions up, the article on bunkai from Mr. King is quite worth the time to read, it's short, but full of information. Also I finally got around to putting up some pictures of the test, though I wish there were more of them. So if you have any get them to me. Finally today, the first of the videos are up on our page, they have been available on youtube for a few days now, but I haven't had the time to add them to ours. Tony |

Yesterdays Test Yesterdays test was certainly exhaustive, and all those who tested did quite well. We had 8 children and 8 adults testing for orange through purple belt. Each student tested with focus and energy. With no injuries to report, and some board breaking at the end it couldn't have gone any better. Good job to those who tested, and a thank you to all who sat on the testing boards. We will have the results in a couple days. There were many cameras around. If you have pictures you want added to the site either put them to me and I'll make sure they get up. Tony |

The Test is coming! Your Test is now only a week away, have you been practicing? The Test will begin at 12:00 noon on Saturday August 22nd. The children will be testing from 12:00 to 12:30, followed by the adult test that will last until at least 3:30, it will be an exhaustive. Please arrive, and be ready at the appropriate time, that includes being warmed up, there will be no group warm-up. As always the dojo will be open at 11:00 for you to practice. In other news check out Mrs. Stenzel's and Mr. King's black belt theses in the student submissions. They are interesting reads, and good information to be known. Lastly, my apologies to Grant, he loaded Taikyoku onto the youtube page, but when I tried to correct the spelling... well it's not there. Tony |

I encourage you to take sensei up on his challenge to study the Bubishi. Everything you would ever want to know about karate is in there, as well as some stuff that would surprise you; including a section on Chinese medicine and herbal remedies. Sensei says "well maybe not all you need to know, but it is interesting reading". Also a couple new things got added. Some older student submissions to Sensei got put up. Instructor Bios were also added, except for yours Jeff, you still haven't sent me yours. Tony |
